John Tanton Network Losing Edge — State Legislators For “Legal” Immigration Loses Another Legislator

SLLI still has the ousted Sen. Russell Pearce as a contact for their National Organization

It is beginning to look like the John Tanton network is beginning to lose it’s edge within the Republican Party.   And I never understood why these so-called Republicans were buying into his agenda since he was a founder of a Michigan abortion clinic.  I thought Republicans were supposed to be pro life but we soon watched the Tanton network agenda seep into the GOP like a thief in the night as he raised millions of dollars convincing some within the GOP to support the attacks against birthright citizenship via the 14th Amendment of our United Constitution while dehumanizing immigrants who are of of Mexican and/or Latin descent throughout the process.

State Legislators for Legal Immigration (SLLI) is a nation-wide coalition founded by Pennsylvania Republican State Representative Daryl D. Metcalfe — and they claim to be in support of legal immigration, but what they don’t tell you is that they don’t support legal immigration by Congress with regard to the bipartisan Gang of Eight legal immigration bill.  In fact, almost all of the SLLI members have been instrumental with regard to submitting and/or supporting anti immigration bills like SB1070 and HB 1804.

Some of these SLLI legislators have gotten  ousted and/or in one case jailed for political bribery.

Many of these SLLI legislators quote the John Tanton networks via NumbersUSA and FAIR.  They use ridiculous and inaccurate data to scare Americans with regard to legal immigration reform.   Many genuine immigration rights’ activists support legal immigration reform, too, and we know and understand that mere state legislators cannot fix a federal problem.   Immigration is protected under the Supremacy Clause of our United States Constitution — and it is a FEDERAL matter that must be resolved by a bipartisan Congress.  The Democratic-controlled Senate has already passed a bipartisanship legal immigration plan — and now it is up to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to do the same thing.

The 2013 Legal immigration reform bill is a major step forward in securing our Nation because only after everyone is registered and documented will we know who is in our Nation and where we can find them. We know that once we fix the broken immigration system, and once we document all immigrants — then they can feel safe to help law enforcement agencies to target real criminal activity without the fear of deportation when they report suspicious activity to the law enforcement authorities. Therefore, bringing the immigrants out of the shadows will only strengthen our Nation’s security.

It is unfortunate the Republican Party was hijacked by John Tanton whom the New York Times deemed the anti-immigrant crusader.

The Anti-Immigration Crusader

One group that Dr. Tanton nurtured, Numbers USA, doomed President George W. Bush’s legalization plan four years ago by overwhelming Congress with protest calls. Another, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, helped draft the Arizona law last year to give the police new power to identify and detain illegal immigrants.

A third organization, the Center for Immigration Studies, joined the others in December in defeating the Dream Act, which sought to legalize some people brought to the United States illegally as children.

Rarely has one person done so much to structure a major cause, or done it so far from the public eye. Dr. Tanton has raised millions of dollars, groomed protégés and bequeathed institutions, all while running an ophthalmology practice nearly 800 miles from Capitol Hill.

Hispanic-Voters-Leaving-GOPBut thankfully the  likes of Republican Senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain caught on and finally did something to try to stop the “Hispanics Leaving the GOP” bleeding.  In fact, Lindsey Graham recently stated Republicans ‘Are in a Demographic Death Spiral.’

Personally, the anti-immigration sentiment reaching a fevered pitch was exactly why I left the GOP after helping them for approximately 20 years.  Now I am a permanent key swing independent voter who recognizes the rise of independent voters across the Nation.

The SLLI mostly Republican state legislators have a list of participating states you can see here, but it appears they are not updating their list as they still list the ousted Arizona Sen. Russell Pearce’s legislative email address, as well as Oklahoma Rep. Randy Terrill who was recently jailed for political bribery.

Indeed, SLLI, are still promoting old ideas that predates the Civil Rights era.  They refuse to support bipartisan immigration resolutions and we are glad to see them lose their edge.  I think it’s time for Pennsylvania Republican State Representative Daryl D. Metcalfe to update his website, and we hope to see the Irish immigrant community work harder in an effort to oust Metcalfe since many live in Pennsylvania. We need to bring back a bit of that San Patricio spirit again.
